Chief Medical Officer
Application & Role Description

World Wheelchair Rugby is seeking a voluntary Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to provide strategic leadership and expert medical advice across wheelchair rugby.

Reporting to the Secretary General (or a board-appointed director), the CMO will be appointed by the Board of Directors at the conclusion of interviews, with appointments reviewed on a four-year Paralympic cycle. The role requires an estimated commitment of 3–4 hours per month, with limited travel (expenses covered where required). The CMO will not provide individual medical treatment but will advise on medical, anti-doping, athlete welfare, classification, and competition medical standards, chair the Medical Advisory Group (MAG), and support WWR’s commitment to WADA compliance and best practice in athlete welfare. Applicants must be qualified medical practitioners with knowledge of anti-doping in sport and strong coordination and communication skills; experience in Paralympic sport, TUE assessment, or sporting bodies is desirable.

World Wheelchair Rugby has launched a Global Media Volunteer Programme to strengthen our international communications and event coverage.

We are seeking motivated individuals with experience or interest in:

  • Social media management
  • Sports photography & videography
  • Journalism & feature writing
  • Digital content production

Volunteers will contribute to global campaigns, athlete storytelling, and major international events. Active contributors will be considered for selection to travel and support on-site media operations at sanctioned competitions.

This programme is ideal for:

  • Sports media students and graduates
  • Emerging content creators
  • Communications professionals looking to build experience in international sport
  • Individuals passionate about disability sport and Paralympic pathways

Do You Want To Be Involved On Our Judicial Panels?

WWR are Looking to Appoint Individuals with a Legal, Medical or Classification Background.

As part of WWR’s ongoing improvements to its governance, the Board revised the WWR Code of Conduct and approved the framework that will deal with its implementation and all disciplinary matters and appeals through a newly formed Independent Judicial System.

As such, we are looking for suitable individuals with a legal background and individuals who have experience in classification and anti-doping.

The Independent Judicial Panel

Judicial and Appeal Committees will be formed by the Independent Judicial Chair, Susan Ahern to hear all cases or appeals referred to it under the WWR Regulations, rules and policies.

WWR are looking to identify and appoint individuals with the requisite experience.

Panel members are divided into two categories: Legal Member and Specialist Member.

Legal Members are appointed to chair hearings and lead reviews or investigations

Specialist Members are appointed as wing members, to undertake investigations and to contribute to reviews

Judicial Panel members are also assigned to the thematic panels covering the following areas:

  • Appeal Panel
  • Classification Panel
  • Anti-Doping Panel

Do you want to be involved as a TUE Committee Member?

Volunteers sought for Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) Committee

World Wheelchair Rugby (WWR) is looking for volunteers to contribute to this vital Committee.

A specific committee will be formed from a pool of qualified appointees. The number of which will be determined based on the TUE applications.

One of the appointees will be nominated as Chairperson. Your experience as a Chair and/or Member can be provided within your application.
